The Power of Partnership: Responding to Flooding at BioLife in Mesquite, Texas

BioLife

When a powerful mid-July storm swept through Mesquite, Texas, their BioLife Plasma Services center was suddenly faced with a serious water emergency. Heavy rain, driven by high winds, found its way into the building through multiple points in the mechanical room. In the wrong circumstances, it could have caused extensive and costly damage.

Instead, thanks to the quick action of Give Clean Co., FBG’s trusted vendor partner, and seamless coordination with FBG and CBRE, the situation was brought under control before any damage occurred.

That evening, Randy Jones, Operations Director for Give Clean Co., was on site conducting a quality check of regular janitorial services. While there, he noticed “water rushing in through electrical units and conduits faster than the drains could handle.”

Recognizing the urgency, Randy immediately alerted Schlounda, the BioLife center manager, and contacted Ashley Ibach, FBG’s National Account Manager for BioLife.

Schlounda met Randy at the BioLife and discovered that the flooding had risen so high in the parking lot that it had began pushing water into the building. With no crew available at that hour, Randy and Schlounda got to work. They placed containers under the leaks and emptied them by hand more than 30 times over three hours. They also extracted water from the entryway carpet, which had been seeping through the door and front wall of the waiting room.

Once the water inside was under control, fans were set up to dry the space overnight, and the building was monitored until it was safe.

Randy and Schlounda worked for over three hours cleaning up the water.

The following evening, another round of rain hit. While the storm didn’t last as long, even more water made its way into the building. Staying in close contact with Ashley and CBRE, who quickly dispatched a cleaning crew to the clinic, Randy returned to the site to provide hands-on support. Together, they discovered the root cause, a missing air conditioning cover, and took steps to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks to Randy and Schlounda’s quick thinking and proactive communication, BioLife avoided unexpected expenses and potential damage. “This is a great example of our team’s ‘see something, say something’ approach,” Ashley said. “Randy and Give Clean truly are our eyes and ears on the ground for our clients.”

Water was coming in from electrical units and conduits faster than the drains could handle.

Paul Wroblewski, Sr. Retail Account Manager at CBRE, also commended the effort: “Randy went above and beyond by quickly notifying the operations team about water infiltration, placing containers under the leaks to capture the water, and staying onsite to continuously manage the situation until the rain stopped. His proactive actions prevented extensive water damage and costly repairs.”

Thanks to the fast response and teamwork, the BioLife Plasma Center remained fully operational, and the client appreciated FBG’s real-time updates and seamless coordination. Even when another storm hit later that weekend, the site was prepared and stayed dry.
