Generations of Dedication: Dennis Breuer and Brennan Breuer at Mediapolis Schools

At Mediapolis Community School District, two generations of the Breuer family are leaving their mark. Dennis Breuer, a dedicated employee of FBG Facility Services, has been with the school since 2001, while his grandson, Brennan Breuer, serves as a Student Services Coordinator and football coach. Their shared workplace has provided both an opportunity to strengthen their bond and make a positive impact on the Mediapolis community.

Dennis’ Journey to Mediapolis Schools

Dennis Breuer’s connection to Mediapolis Schools spans over two decades. A 1972 graduate of Mediapolis High School, Dennis spent 28 years working at the Exide battery plant until its closure in 2001. After the plant shut down, then-Superintendent Fred Whipple reached out to Dennis, inviting him to join the school’s maintenance team. Since then, Dennis has become an essential part of the school, handling everything from maintenance and custodial work to working with contractors and ordering supplies. As the facility manager, Dennis’ role is vast, and his commitment to keeping the school running smoothly is admirable.

Brennan’s Role and Work Ethic

Brennan Breuer, also a Mediapolis graduate, has followed in his grandfather’s footsteps—both in education and in contributing to the school. As a Student Services Coordinator, Brennan’s primary focus is on supporting students and ensuring they succeed academically and personally. His grandfather, who has witnessed Brennan’s growth from a young student to a role model and leader, praises his strong work ethic and dedication to helping kids. Beyond his administrative duties, Brennan is also a high school football coach.

A Unique Family Connection

For Dennis and Brennan, working in the same district has created a unique dynamic. “I get to see him daily throughout the day,” Dennis shares. The pair even collaborates on the sidelines during high school football games, where Dennis has been keeping the team’s stats for over 30 years. This shared space in both work and extracurricular activities has allowed them to support each other in ways that deepen their family connection.

While their relationship has grown stronger through their shared time at Mediapolis, Brennan’s recent return to the area means they haven’t had much free time to spend together outside of school and football. “He just moved back this summer, and he’s extremely busy,” Dennis explains. However, both seem to appreciate the unique opportunity they have to see and support each other during school hours.

The Impact of Employee Ownership

As an employee owner at FBG Facility Services, Dennis looks forward to the security that his retirement plan will bring. “When I do retire, it will give me security to do what I want,” he says. His sense of pride in his work, and the work of his employees, has been enhanced by the culture of employee ownership. Dennis believes that this sense of ownership encourages his team to pay close attention to detail and to take pride in the school’s appearance, which, in turn, helps FBG strengthen its reputation in schools like Mediapolis.
