Dennis Breuer: A Lifetime of Dedication to Mediapolis Community Schools

Dennis Breuer

For more than 20 years, Dennis Breuer has been a cornerstone of Mediapolis Schools. A 1972 graduate of Mediapolis High School, Dennis spent nearly three decades working at the Exide battery plant before its closure in 2001. Shortly after, then Superintendent Fred Whipple invited him to join the district’s maintenance team, a decision that proved to be a lasting win for the school community.

Since then, Dennis has worn many hats, including maintenance, custodial work, contractor coordination and supply ordering. Through FBG, he now serves as the district’s facility manager. Known for his reliability, resourcefulness and pride in keeping the school running smoothly, Dennis has become indispensable to the day-to-day life of the district.

The Breuer family connection to Mediapolis Schools runs deep. Dennis’ grandson, Brennan Breuer, works as a Student Services Coordinator and also coaches the high school football team. At every game, his grandfather is on the sidelines keeping stats. It is a role Dennis has proudly held for more than 30 years.

In 2019, Dennis was a part of the planning team for the high school’s state-of-the-art concession stand and restroom facilities. He also volunteered to install new fencing around the area.

This summer, Dennis purchased and installed flagpoles and flags at both the Mediapolis’ baseball and softball diamonds, a $4,000 donation completed just in time for postseason play.

“It was a big surprise, and he put them in fast so we could have them for the post-season games,” said Superintendent Adam Magliari.

Activities Director Brian Borrison echoed that gratitude. “It is a tremendously generous gift. He does so much for our school. Now, during the National Anthem, everyone can see the flag on both fields. We are extremely grateful for Dennis and all that he has done for our district.”

In 2005, Dennis was honored with the Building Service Employee of the Year Award from BSCAI. Presented to only one employee nationwide each year, the award recognizes those whose job performance, civic involvement and family role best exemplify qualities found in superior custodial employees. It is a distinction that perfectly reflects Dennis’ decades of service, commitment and pride in representing both FBG Facility Services and Mediapolis Community Schools.

Employee Ownership at FBG

As an employee owner at FBG Facility Services, Dennis takes great pride in both his work and his team. He believes the culture of ownership inspires his crew to go the extra mile, pay close attention to detail and take pride in how the school looks each day. That shared commitment benefits everyone, from students and staff to the entire community, and it strengthens the long-standing partnership between FBG and Mediapolis Community Schools. For Dennis, ownership also means peace of mind for the future. “When I do retire, it will give me security to do what I want,” he says.
